What is success
Success. One word, seven letters, unlimited possibilities. Officially, success is the completion of anything intended, but what does this actually mean? I turned to Google for the answer, but turns out this is one thing even Google can’t answer. The picture included in this blog is the first image Google returns as the image for “success”. All we are provided with is a key strewn across the word “success” and nothing more. What will be your key to success? Finishing high school? Starting a business? Passing chemistry? Learning who you want to become? What may seem like a small feat to some, may be a success to others. Reading in front of class may seem like nothing out of the ordinary to most, but to someone who has dyslexia, the ability to do this could be a great success. What you consider success can only be determined internally, no one else can define what your personal success is. To me, one of the greatest things about success is that you can be unsure. It isn’t something you have to have nailed out by the time your 20 or before you move out, its something that grows and changes with you as an individual. Determining what success is exciting, because even if you reach what you thought was your “success” there’s always another way…a new way for you to define it.
Let’s say we’ve defined what we see as our personal success is, how do we achieve it? I don’t ask this question to make success something intimidating, I only ask it because it something to think about. How determined are you to reach success? What is your motivation for success? How far are you willing to go for success? But most of all, why do you want to be successful?
Relax. Being able to answer these questions and reach success isn’t something that needs to be done independently. Although we all have different definitions of what successful is, we can always learn something from those we consider successful in some aspect in their life. As has been proven continuously, MYLead has many successful people in its midst; people who we can learn from and use as support as we obtain our own successes. MYLead 2011 is bringing back the success panel to do just this. This panel is setup to help ambassadors navigate everything that is complicated and confusing about success. Not only are these panelists successful in some aspect of their life, but they’re also a hero to someone, as is everyone. One final thought I leave you with as you debate the numerous options that are success is: Is someone a hero because he is successful, or is he successful because he is a hero?
